Coverage is available for boats that are used for private pleasure and recreation. MetLife Auto & Home doesn’t cover commercial or chartered boats.

MetLife Auto & Home offers a wide variety of coverage options, including:

  • Boat repair: we pay both partial and full losses to your boat, including hull, motor, trailers, and boating equipment. Covered items include outboard and inboard motorboats, stern drives, jet skis, sailboats, personal watercraft, and more. We also cover personal effects too, like fishing equipment or water skis. Simply add this optional coverage to your basic boat policy.
  • Passenger protection: if for any reason your passengers became injured under the ownership, maintenance, or use of your boat, we’d pay up to $1,000 for each person under medical payment coverage, regardless of fault.
  • Coverage for uninsured and underinsured boaters: this protects you and your passengers in the event you were involved in an accident caused by a boat operator who was uninsured or underinsured. Note that UB and UIB coverage varies by state and is not available in all states.
  • Liability protection: our liability in court insurance coverage provides for bodily injury and property damage to others when the law holds you responsible. We also cover your legal fees, should you be sued and need to defend yourself.

When basic coverage isn’t enough, we have additional features available, including:

  • Hurricane protection: whenever the National Weather Service issues a hurricane advisory, we’ll pay up to $250 towards hauling your boat out of the water to a protected area. You don’t need to worry about a natural disaster causing damage to your watercraft.
  • Unforeseen emergency services: because everything breaks down at one time or another, we offer emergency services coverage, which pays $250 toward towing and labor on land or in the water, including the delivery of fuel, oil, or a battery. Higher limits are also available.

No worries! Your policy and coverage will continue without interruption, subject to policy terms and conditions. You’re able to pay your insurance premiums through our EFT payment plan, by credit or debit card, through bills received by mail, or, in some cases, by pension deduction. If your premium is currently deducted from your paycheck and you go on short-term disability, such as parental leave, your coverage stays in effect throughout your leave (subject to policy terms). If you were on payroll deduction and you’re not receiving a regular paycheck from your employer, you’ll receive a bill directly by mail.2

  • Liability coverage: which covers if you or a family member are ever found legally responsible for an injury or property damage involving your RV.
  • Medical payments coverage: this provides payment for injuries if you, your family members, or your passengers ever get into an accident.
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorists coverage: this ensures that if you get into an accident with someone who doesn’t have enough or any insurance coverage, you’ll be covered through your own policy.
  • Physical damage coverage: this covers you if your RV gets damaged from being outside from things like falling tree branches, fire, theft, vandalism, and more. It can include your RV’s accessories like special handlebars and sidecars as well.
  • Replacement cost coverage: takes care of out-of-pocket costs for special parts like tires, brakes, batteries, and shocks with no deduction for depreciation.
  • Legal defense costs: which covers you if you’re ever sued. We also reimburse up to $250/day if you ever have to attend a hearing or trial at our request.

We do have optional trailer coverage, which you can add onto your policy. This offers the same broad physical damage coverage to protect any trailers you own and use to transport your motorcycle, snowmobile, or other recreational vehicle.
